El Paso artist, Ho Baron will speak on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Las Cruces Museum of Art. He will discuss his extraordinary bronze sculptures and his career over the last 30 years.

Ho Baron was born in Chicago in 1941 and raised in El Paso, Texas. He earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in English and a second Master’s degree in Library Science. In the late 1970s, Baron studied sculpture, first at the Philadelphia College of Art and later at the University of Texas. A long-time supporter of the arts, he served on the City of El Paso Public Art Committee 2006-2007 and is currently on the board of the Texas Society of Sculptors.

Mr. Baron expresses himself in many different mediums including writing, photography, pen and ink drawing, painting, print making. He has created more than 300 narrative bronze and cast stone figures. Mr. Baron describes his sculptures as water-like creatures, and has called his collective works "Gods for Future Religions". His work is currently on display at the Preston Contemporary Art Center in Mesilla, New Mexico

Funded by the City of Las Cruces. The Las Cruces Museum of Art is located at 491 N. Main Street at the north end of the downtown mall. Gallery hours are 9 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
