The Las Cruces Museum of Art continues its ”Speaking of Art” lecture series with Amanda Jaffe on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 2:00 PM. The lecture series features regional artists discussing their work on the third Saturday of each month. It is open to the public and admission is free.

A native of California, Amanda Jaffe is a professor of ceramics at New Mexico State University. She received her BFA at Indiana University at Bloomington and earned her MFA from the University of Montana in Missoula. In her program at NMSU, Ms. Jaffe teaches ceramic practices including: throwing, slip casting, tile making, and other hand-building techniques. She is a longtime member of the Las Cruces Potter’s Guild.

Amanda Jaffe has exhibited her work nationally and many of her ceramic sculptures are held in private and public collections. For her murals at New York City’s Staten Island Zoo, Ms. Jaffe found inspiration from the zoo’s African Savannah and Tropical Rainforest exhibitions. To Ms. Jaffe, the public’s accessibility to these works is very important to her as “…Children as well as adults can respond to the images…”
