Space Travel - Dance Workshop for Kids by Sanjukta Wagh. In what language does your body speak? If it were to discover its own tongue, what would it sound like? How would it choose to move?. Here's a workshop that doesn't impart a style, a grammar, a technique. There's no Bharata Natyam, no bhangra and no Bollywood dance. It looks at dance simply as a body moving in space. And in the process, it guarantees all participants a whale of a time. Children will be exposed to beginning of the world' stories from various sources, ranging from Bhil legends, folktales from Arunachal Pradesh to Stephen Hawking's Brief History of Time. In the process, they will be empowered to find their own tongues, to tell stories with their bodies. Introduced to movements from Kathak, contemporary dance and theatre, they will be encouraged to discover their own accents, their own dictions, their own body-signatures. The emerging kinetic languages will be varied, but are guaranteed to be alive, energetic, expressionistic, discovered and unfailingly, surprising. Sanjukta Wagh is a Mumbai-based Kathak dancer and teacher, with a keen interest in theatre. Resource Persons: Iravati Karnik (theatre) and Neha John (contemporary dance). Age Group: 9 to 15 years.
