Raumpatrouille – Die phantastischen Abenteuer des Raumschiffes ORION a.k.a. Raumpatrouille Orion (Space Patrol Orion) was the first German science fiction television series. Its seven episodes were broadcast by the ARD in 1966 achieving audience ratings of up to 80 %. Since then, the series has acquired cult-status in Germany.
The occasionally ironic series starring German heartthrob Dietmar Schoenherr tells the adventures of Cliff Allister McLane, who commands the international crew of ORION, fights a war with the alien "Frogs" and often gets in trouble with the government of Earth.
In addition to the set design, the terminology of the series was memorable to the German audiences, as they chose to create original German terms. The special effects may look quaint to us today, but were considered spectacular at the time.
Each episode is 45 min. and screened on DVD, German with English subtitles.

Monday, May 11 @ 7:00 p.m.
