Parents looking for a blast of a weekend can bring their little space cadets to the Maryland Science Center for a day of out-of-this-world activities at the annual Space Day celebration on Saturday May 9, 2009.

Visitors to Space Day can make their own wearable space helmets, decorate space cookies, build a working spectroscope, create solar art, launch rockets and participate in activities that simulate astronaut training. Former NASA astronaut Ken Reightler will be available to sign autographs and answer questions.

Space Day will also include presentations on space suits, telescopes, space missions and rocketry from organizations on the cutting edge of space research. A new exhibit by the Design Rhythmics Sonification Research Lab will give visitors the chance to “Hear the Sun,” by interacting with projected images from the STEREO Space Missions in order to create music.

All Space Day events are free with paid admission to the Maryland Science Center. The Maryland Science Center is located at 601 Light Street at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. For information and tickets, visit www.marylandsciencecenter.org or call the 24-Hour Information Line at 410-685-5225.
