South By Due East at Dan Electro's Friday March 14- Monday March 17. SXDE is a 4 day taping event of original music and spoken word. Featuring a diverse range of talents from country musicians to texastinged cowpunk, spoken word to noise. A glimpse of festivals in the future, crews film and record the live performances but it seems like everybody has a camera and is using it. Participants get an edited, multi camera one song video while attendees get to see a broad variety of original music from Houston and around the world. Unlike that other extravaganza held in Austin, ours is free (but donations are strongly encouraged) no driving around town to see a large collection of music - one location only (two stages), no long lines (everyone gets in), and you can come and go as you please. Over 80 bands have signed up for this year. Check the website for times and stages.

Great event! Totally blown away by the variety of bands and the camaraderie. The backyard at Dan's was smokin' as a place for band leaders to pick up new musicians - with horn players and percussionists handing out phone numbers as fast as they could write 'em down.
Fun!
