For its final act, Green Sound takes you back to the de Young for a special Cultural Encounters: Friday Nights at the de Young event. With impressionistic projections and sounds of San Francisco avant-jazz band The Drift (Drums, Guitar, Keyboard, Trumpet, and Electric Bass), Green Sound reclaims nature into our urban environment through a journey inspired by our stunning city of wind, plant life, fog, perched at land’s end, as well as our own presence in the environment. This contemporary Bay Area impressionism collide with its origins in this special performance that responds to de Young’s special exhibition “Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay: The Birth of Impressionism”running May 22 to September 6, 2010. The de Young presents nearly 100 magnificent works by the famous masters who called France their home during the mid- to late-19th century and from whose midst arose one of the most original and recognizable of all artistic styles, Impressionism.
