'Sounds So Good, Makes You Wanna Holler (Old School vs. New School)' is the fictional story of Sam King and his singing group, The Harmonies. The Harmonies emulated everybody from The Temptations to The Miracles to The Four Tops, and every other popular group from the 1960s. The Harmonies made money, but never made it big - they were the opening act, but never the star attraction. King and his group are still together, not cutting records, but cutting hair at King's Barber Shop. Sam King, Jr. is just like his father and wants to make it big in today's music industry. His father, having gone through the heartache of the music business, is against his son's ambitions and wants his son to go into business - any business except the music business. With !60s top chart hits like Ray Charles' "I Got A Woman," the great songs of the Temptations, The Four Tops, The Miracles, The Dells, Aretha Franklin and "the Godfather of Soul" James Brown, Black Ensemble Theater will combine the hits of yesterday with today's popular music featuring the music of Kanye West, Nelly and John Legend, to name just a few. In true Black Ensemble Theater fashion, Sounds So Good, Makes You Wanna Holler (Old School vs. New School) will inspire and uplift with a little history added to the musical mix.
