If you are in Singapore, do join us for the Songkran Festival (Thai New Year Festival) on 11 April at the Thai embassy. This all-day event is organised by the Thai Association (Singapore). You can enjoy a Thai water festival, Thai food, Thai friends, Thai music and more!!

The Thai Association (Singapore) with full support from the Royal Thai Embassy will hold the annual Songkran Festival Celebration on April 11 2009 on the embassy ground from noon till 8 pm.

Songkran Festival, also known as the traditional Thai New Year, is marked with significant rituals which include the bathing of Buddha images and paying respects to the elders by sprinkling scented water on their hands while receiving their blessings for a bountiful year ahead.

To many who have visited Thailand during this period, witnessing the pouring of water over one another, and happy faces dabbed with scented powder is all but a common sight.

This year, the Thai Association will ensure Songkran Celebration on a grand scale with the key essence of rituals and traditions, and all the fun elements to guarantee a good time, wet or dry.

You will be able to participate in the bathing of Buddha image on a purpose-built religious stand, and thereafter, have a great time feasting on mouth watering Thai cuisines while enjoying visual treats of traditional dance performances.

Other highlights of the afternoon include Miss Songkran Pageant contest, traditional games and performances by two highly energised Thai bands that will keep you rocking into the dusk. Prizes include return tickets to Bangkok, courtesy of Thai Airways and Thai Air Asia.

The public is welcome to join in the celebration. Admission to the event is $10 each ($12 if you purchase ticket on the spot) and comes complete with a Songkran Wet Kit in a limited edition tote bag, all specially imported from Thailand for the occasion. Children below 12 years old are invited to join in the fun, free of charge, with accompanying paying adults.
