Sones de Mexico Ensemble culminates its spring concert season with this not-to-be-missed one-time-only production. Ensemble musician Juan Dies says "It will be a musical journey that explores Mexico’s multi-ethnic identity in four acts, starting with an Aztec ceremony that retells the story of Creation and the spirit of constant renewal. Act two is about the transformation of European culture in Mexico: Spain's Arab-Andalusian culture, the music of the Baroque, and the military brass bands of Central Europe, all becoming part of Mexico's folklore. Act three looks at Mexico's often-overlooked African roots, and act four explores the pioneering spirit of migrants--sort of autobiographical--; we'll do Woody Guthrie, Led Zeppelin, Puerto Rican plena and a premier of Victor Pichardo's new composition: de CoraSON (In Yolotl)." Tickets $25. $15 tickets are available for children 15 and under. Call Audience Services at 312-335-1650 for details.
