Social Media Club ('SMC') has been organized for the purpose of sharing best practices, establishing ethics and standards, and promoting media literacy around the emerging area of Social Media.

This month's gathering will be an interactive discussion focused around 'How to do a better interview'.

We are inviting journalists (traditional media and citizen - names to be announced shortly) to come in and share their most important interview techniques. Specifically, hints and tips about getting the most from the interview opportunities. After their 'presentation', we will break into small groups for about 30 minutes to discuss more deeply.

We will have a short break, and people will pair off and do 4-10 minute interviews with each other to hone their techniques. After which, we will get back together as a group and talk about what we learned.

We plan to podcast and video the entire event and the content will be posted to the SMC site to share with the 'world'.

The event is FREE to attend, though you must pre-register at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/46596371 so we can prepare the space for your arrival.

We are looking for support from local businesses and/or individuals to cover drinks and snacks at the meetings, and for a few volunteers to help setup/cleanup. Please contact socialmediaclub [at] gmail [dot] com if you would like to support your local chapter.

We have Tom Abate (Chronicle) and Tom Foremski (Silicon Valley Watcher) signed on as our guests for the evening.

If you know anyone else who does interviews for a living, who might be a good fit here - let me know.

I can't believe it is a month already. I will be writing something else up on this event tomorrow, but I have an interesting workshop like idea in mind - so bring your podcast rigs, video cameras and or moleskin notebooks and have a topic in mind...

Just a quick note, Tom Abate did a great post on this topic - http://minimediaguy.org/2007/02/20/how-to-make-friends-and-interview-people/ and I have posted a rough agenda on http://www.socialmediaclub.com/
