Social Media Cafe Toronto is an informal networking event for people who share an interest in social media. It's a casual forum for you to meet new people, share experiences, and drink lots of coffee. If you enjoy meeting like-minded people who use social media-- professionally, personally, artistically, or for any purpose-- then this event is for you. www.socialmediacafe.ca

In the last few years, social media cafes sprung up across the UK, then moved into mainland Europe, the US, and now, it's time to bring this successful event to Toronto. Their popularity comes from a casual environment, high energy, and a great network of interesting people.

When: Thursday, October 6, 2011, 6:00 PM

Where: ING DIRECT Cafe Downtown Toronto - 221 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON

As October 6th is election night, the theme will be social media for social good and civic participation. We've extended the hours, so if you need to vote after work, you'll still have time to attend the event.

It's running from 6:00 till 9:00. We'll start on the main floor at 6:00, then at 7:45 we'll move upstairs.

There will be free coffee, live Twiter streams, and when we move upstairs, social karaoke and a non-profit bar. Social Karaoke will be hosted by MC Emma Jenkin, MC Mark Farmer, and Twitter-MC Matthew Potter. This Social Karaoke event will focus on social media for non-profit and civic participation. Then the following week, we'll take the Social Karaoke discussion to That Channel TV station. If you want to participate via twitter, use the hashtag #SMCafeTO to share your questions or reactions.
