New Approaches to Organisational Growth and Effectiveness

Title : Social Enterprise
The 2008 series will commence with an exploration of social enterprise as an important tool for generating income and other social purpose outcomes. Many look to social enterprise as a method to build equity and shared ownership, to develop new forms of community cohesion and reduce dependence on grants and donations. This seminar will look at current trends in social enterprise, explore models that work and suggest steps for those wishing to get started.
Speaker 1: Micheal Pyner, CEO Shoreditch Trust, London

Micheal Pyner is the Chief Executive of Shoreditch Trust, a lecturer in Urban Regeneration, a Fellow of the Royal Society and a National Neighbourhood Renewal Advisor. He has developed an asset base and a series of social enterprises that underpin the income of Shoreditch Trust. These include Acorn House London’s first and award winning eco restaurant. This seminar will look at current trends in social enterprise, explore models that work and suggest steps for those wishing to get started.

Speaker 2: Joe McKenna, Venture Advancement, Galway

Joe McKenna founded Venture advancement after a period of working as a consultant for clients such as Clongowes Wood College Foundation, D.I.T.,Croí and Cope where he devised and delivered upon extensive fundraising campaigns. Previous to this Joe was Executive Director with Berkshire Community Foundation n the UK and Executive Director of Galway University Foundation where he was responsible for the establishment of the NUI Galway development office and directed its €250 million programme. Joe is a masters graduate of Providence College, Rhode Island, USA and also holds an MA in Communication Arts from Notre Dame University in Indiana, USA.
