On December 12, 2011, Canada formally declared its intention to withdraw from the Kyoto Protocols. The decision set off a variety of commentary and criticism towards Canada, a nation with a generally progressive environmental record. The Canada Institute has organized this event to evaluate the reasons why Canada chose to leave Kyoto, what effect that will have on future Canadian environmental decisions, and what Canada’s withdrawal from Kyoto means for international environmental governance in the future.
