The September 14, 2011 "Meet the Experts" Nitinol Properties and Unique Behavior for Medical and Advanced Product Design Forum will describe the material properties of Nitinol and how these unique characteristics are utilized in the design of medical and consumer products; such as stents, bone staples, orthodontic arch wires, eyeglass frames and actuators. Memory metal, known as Nitinol, is a metal alloy that returns to its original shape when it is heated to the proper temperature. This Forum will be packed full of information on Nitinol's characteristics, as well as actual design examples in multiple industries.

The first of three speakers featured for this Forum is Todd Dickson. He is co-founder and president of Lumenous Device Technologies, Inc., a medical device manufacturer specializing in micro-scale implants, including coronary and neurovascular stents. He will speak on the design and assembly of Nitinol products, including case histories and application data.

Dr. T. Kim Parnell of Parnell Engineering and Consulting will speak on the fundamentals of how Nitinol works and will present examples of Nitinol used in the medical field. He will also discuss how to use CAD modeling and virtual prototype simulations when designing with Nitinol with emphasis on medical applications of Nitinol.

Princesca Ene is the managing director of Ni-Ti Tubes, Inc. Ni-Ti is a supplier of specialized Nitinol tubing, metallography laboratory tests and design services. Princesca's presentation will provide information on the physical characteristics and processing requirements of Nitinol such as grain size, surface roughness, and phase transition temperatures.

Following the speakers, a complimentary lunch will be served and door prizes given away. Please register as soon as possible as space is limited.
