DVORAK Piano Trio Op.90 “Dumky”.
Our second Czech visitors of the year are the highly regarded Smetana Piano Trio and they start their concert with Mozart's poignant G major piano trio which was written soon after Mozart's baby boy Johann died, so it has a particular tender quality. The great British musicologist Tovey described Brahms' piano trio as full of humour and mystery and indeed this is a fascinating work. The evening finishes with a performance of Dvorak's Dumky piano trio, which is full of poetry and passion.
