'Smart' centers on Doug, a college student who is writing his dissertation on a pair of high school classmates who brutally murder a college professor and his wife. Posing as students doing research for a school survey, the teens hatch a plan to take the couple by surprise, threaten them into revealing their bank PIN numbers, rob and kill them - all to get money for a trip to Australia. The chilling scenes play out as Doug interviews one of the murderers from jail, delving deeply into the mind of a cold-blooded killer.
