Please join us for Slow Food Portland’s First Annual Breeders Cup and Variety Show. Frank Morton of Wild Garden Seeds will open the evening by exploring the world of vegetable breeding. Frank and Karen Morton have developed an extensive line of seeds tailored for the certified organic market farmer. Their seed lines are hardy plants well suited to organic culture, also distinctive and beautiful. In the field, in the market basket, and on the plate they catch the eye and please the palate. They are to the seed world what jazz is to music: improvisational, rhythmic and robust. Virtually all of the catalogues carrying seeds for market growers, including High Mowing, Johnny’s, Seeds of Change, Fedco, Nichols, Territorial, Chef’s Garden, carry the Mortons’ seeds. In the seed catalogues, Morton’s an icon, one of the few plant breeders consistently identified by name.

Following Frank Morton’s presentation there will be a “variety show” of vegetables selected, prepared and presented for tasting by the following farmer: Laura Masterson from 47th Avenue Farm, Anthony and Carol Boutard from Ayers Creek, Josh Volk and Tanya Murray from Sauvie Island Organics, Anne Berblinger of Gales Meadow Farm and Shari Sirkin of Dancing Roots Farm.
