One of the few political German films of the 1950s.
Anna is a factory worker in East Germany. Her five-year-old son Jochen lives a few miles across the border in the West. Unable to cope with the separation, she tries to smuggle him into the East, aided by a West German border patrol guard.
Anna falls in love with the guard. When she eventually decides to escape to the West with her son, she finds the border has become impenetrable.
