Market Street Gallery is pleased to present Skazki of Wonderland a solo exhibition by established artist, Tatiana Lyskova, opening February 1, 2011, and running through February 28, 2011. The artist reception will be held on Saturday, February 19th, 2011, from 6 PM - 8 PM.

Tatiana Lyskova's own mythology is the focus of her 'Skazki (Tales) of Wonderland' exhibition. An established & widely acclaimed illustrator and print-maker from Russia, Tatiana continues to pursue her passion for art after having relocated to San Francisco.

Tatiana's art is a combination of reality and fantasy, rationality and spontaneity, clarity and mystery. Her art ranges in approach from traditional to contemporary; blending ancient, modern, common and personal mythologies in a variety of media. The boundary between the extremes becomes light and fluid, almost transparent, and everything gets intertwined and mutually dependent. The inner world - the world of thoughts, dreams and emotions - considered to be as real as the outside world, and art allows to manifest these feelings with completeness and accuracy. The smallest gradations of feelings, fragility and elegance of the soul's movement, the juxtaposition of fantasy and everyday life are all expressed with one of the most complex techniques in printed graphics - the etching. The technique which Tatiana most often employs, "a la poupee", is in many respects improvisational, allowing for the creation of unique compositions even when printing from the same zinc plate.

The soulfulness and lyricism of Tatiana Lyskova's work attracts attention also because it touches upon person's innermost feelings, which are often hidden from others. It is essential that we ourselves are able to explore them and Tatiana's work offers an invaluable opportunity to do exactly that.
