This week enjoy dinner at Akasha:

One of CitySearch's Best New Los Angeles Restaurants of 2008

"The “eco-conscious” vibe “shows in every detail” from the servers’ hemp-and-cotton uniforms to the energy-efficient light fixtures at this “chic” green newcomer from Akasha Richmond in Culver City luring “vegans and carnivores” for an “amazingly original”, mostly organic New American menu plus “delectable” pastries and fair-trade coffee at the in-house bakery counter; factor in a “knowledgeable” staff and a “stunning”, “industrial” setting and its no wonder locals are lauding it as a “fabulous addition to the area dining scene”, albeit a “pricey” one." - Zagat.com

"After twenty years of cooking and catering events, Akasha Richmond, also known for her cookbook, Hollywood Dish, and for her use of soy, finally opened her own place. She chose the historic Hull Building in downtown Culver City, at one time the city's first hospital. Is it a coincidence that this is the stage for her cuisine based on organic and sustainable products? Even the impressive interior design respects Akasha 's love of the earth: the walls are made of reclaimed barn wood; recycled glass tiles are used for the floor; the mobile-like lighting fixtures, which dance gracefully in the air, are equipped with LED bulbs; the chairs are made with organic leather; and much more. Start your evening at the limestone bar. Cocktails are composed with organic spirits and fresh juices, of course. Or have a glass of wine from a small boutique producer focusing on organic, biodynamic and sustainable practices. Move on to the dining room and its health-minded menu. Start with the pizza bread to dip in a bean hummus, fried tomatoes, a pizza or a bowl of red quinoa and edamame. The braised short ribs are flavored with an unexpected combination of anise, ginger and pink peppercorns while the pork chop sits on a bed of white bean purée. The saffron rice paired with the dry sea bass gets a lift from guacamole. Side dishes include onion rings and sautéed vegetables (both a bit greasy), organic french fries and organic-cheddar mac 'n' cheese. The honey on the artisan cheese plate is fair-trade while the vanilla Chantilly crème accompanying the salty chocolate tart is made with soy milk instead of dairy milk. Ready for a voyage to healthy planet?" - Gayot.com
