Tonight join us at Le Lan:

"“Elegant” New French–Vietnamese fusion fare featuring a “quiet innovation in flavors” and “outstanding presentations” lures a “lively” crowd to this “dark, stylish” den in River North that sports “spare”, “tasteful decor” and a “service-oriented” staff; while a coterie of critics “expected more”, they’re please with the “gems” on its “terrific wine list”; N.B. the recent addition of new chef Bill Kim may outdate the above Food score." - Zagat.com

" Is it possible for two high-caliber chefs to run a kitchen and not shoot each other in the food? Consulting chefs Roland Liccioni (Les Nomades) and Arun Sampanthavivat (Arun's) are giving it a go at this smart spot, which brought in executive chef Bill Kim (formerly of Trio and Charlie Trotter’s) to man the kitchen. Price is a consideration at French-Vietnamese Le Lan (which means the orchid); luxury never comes cheaply, but when we are expected to shell out up to $14 for appetizers and up to $36 for an entrée, we want a whole lot of bells and whistles to go off. Sometimes, they do. The flavors and complexity of many of the dishes often are quite interesting. Look for options like hot and sour soup with crimson lentils, tofu and egg crêpe and seafood soba noodle salad with lime-coriander vinaigrette to start things off. Next up, it’s wild mushroom dumplings in dashi broth or panko-crusted tofu with preserved papaya and pickled red onion. Feeling luxurious? Snag banana-leaf-wrapped blue nose grouper in red Thai curry with Napa cabbage and fingerling potatoes." - Gayot.com
