"This neighborhood bar-restaurant could lay claim to being DC’s Cheers. A locals’ destination, it plays to its fans with a startlingly sophisticated menu that belies its booze-worthy facade. Indeed, our only regret is that it’s hard to enjoy an entire menu’s worth of food in one seating. How can you turn down a carne asada salad with fresh corn kernels in favor of a shepherd’s pie made with Guinness stout? Or build a meal without including an appetizer of baked Brie with an almond crust and an accent of boysenberry jam? Rib-eye with Gorgonzola? Desserts add up to many calories, but why not splurge on bread pudding with Maker’s Mark caramel? It all comes with a price, but the cooking is so good, and the atmosphere so clubby, that you won’t mind what the tab says in the end.
