FALU and her eponymous band are gaining visibility for their exquisite synthesis of ancient Indian classical traditions and contemporary pop/rock songwriting. Trained rigorously under the legendary master Ustad Sultan Khan, singer Falu’s (Falguni Shah’s) formidable vocal dexterity and improvisatory talent together with exceptional onstage charisma have led to numerous high-profile collaborations including with superstar producer Wyclef Jean in Angelina Jolie’s upcoming directorial debut film A Moment in the World (unreleased), Yo-Yo Ma in the Silk Road Project, Born Into Brothels Ensemble (from the 2004 Oscar-winning documentary), Karsh Kale and Carnegie Hall, for whom she serves as an ambassador of Indian music and where her debut Family Concert in 2006 at Zankel was sold out.
