Beth Colegrove started writing her own music and lyrics at age 10. This characterizes her performances even today: Beth is so at ease that she will put you at ease as her confident whispers feed you rich food for your mind and soul. Her quiet voice woos the heart and nourishes the mind.

Her first attempt at an album came in 2004. “Let It Ring” was a collaboration between Beth and her long-time friend, Jeff Butcher, who plays mandolin and guitar for Beth. In 2007, Beth came out with a solo, 5-song EP entitled “Truths I Have Not Told”. Among the gems is a song, Sergeant, probing the circumstances and pain of a homeless veteran on the streets of Boston.

Beth’s first full-length album “Elephant Heart”, released in August 2009, is available on flashdrive and CD. It features a series of “birdsongs” which mine the bitter-sweet ecstasy-tragedy of human relationships with lyrics you’d expect from seasoned poets. It celebrates the strangers on the street as much as friends, family, and romance. The title track is her anthem of love which often turns into the sing-a-long number at her concerts. The album closes with a favorite, Savannah Sparrow, a sharp, beautiful, and telling song about the love her grandmother had for her grandfather.

This young woman is already amassing performances in places like the legendary Club Passim in Cambridge, Mass. (http://www.clubpassim.org/), the The Vanilla Bean in Pomfret, Conn. (http://www.thevanillabeancafe.com/), and PACE in Easthampton, Mass. (http://www.pioneerarts.org/) as she continues to build an impressive resume. She has opened for many acts at Club Passim including Anne Heaton, Meg Hutchinson, Vance Gilbert, and Edie Carey.

We all know it’s rare to find mature, original, poetic lyrics. It’s even rarer to find a guitarist who can play and perform their songs effectively. Beth Colegrove is the miracle which embodies all this combined. The guitar is an extension of her body. Her voice is an extension of her being. Her lyrics speak from beyond what her age should allow. With the benefit of time on her side she is poised to enjoy a long colorful career.
