Singapore Arts Festival 2011: 2 June 3, 2011

TAO dance theater presents 2 which is an excavation of the creative potential of the human body through the act of movement. 2 comes from their perspective that recent Chinese history has divorced its people from a connection with their own bodies, which should be a source of wisdom and memory, a bridge between past and future. Through rigorous, sincere exploration of the body, the company aims to stretch the boundaries of the flesh, in order to rediscover the body’s unknown or lost possibilities.

TAO Dance Theater’s performance 2 is a response to the current state of China’s contemporary art culture and society in general. The perspective is that this generation’s bodies are, in the words of TAO Dance Theater, "adrift …and as a result the body’s creative abilities have stagnated and lost direction.

This is a co-commission by the Singapore Arts Festival and Dansmakers Amsterdam.
