The Oakland Bay Area Community Chorus, a fifty voice multi-ethnic group, presents an opportunity to celebrate the rich traditions and spiritual healing of the African American musical experience at its annual spring concert "Sing Into Spring." Following the choir's mission and tradition of many years, the chorus will perform African American Spirituals, often described as America's only true folk music. African American spirituals represent a priceless legacy of the trials, tribulations and eventual triumphs of enlaved Africans and their descendants. The spring concert's theme is "Hope and Healing for our Nation."

Special concert selections include "Dont You Weep No More, Mary" and "I'll Never Turn BacK, historical spirituals composed by R. Nathaniel Dett as well as the trimphant "Battle of Jericho" arranged by Moses Hogan, an acclaimed congtemporary composer. OBACC will also perform gospel selections including a soleful rendition of "Halleujah" from "Handel's Messiah: A soulful Celebration." William "Bill" Bell's Jazz Connection Trio" will be featured and provide soul and jazz accompaniment as we "Sing Into Spring."

Choral Director, William "Bill" Bell, is well known in the Bay area as a Musician extraordinaire. His credentials are impressive and his experience extensive. Known fondly as "The Jazz Professor," Bell gained many friends and fans through his long tenure as a Jazz pianist, teacher and mentor to many singers, musicians and music lovers in the San Francisco Bay Area.

From spirituals and gospel to jazz, this concert will provide a soulful, spirited and inspirational celebration of SPRING!!
