"Going to concerts myself - those that were personally meaningful to me in an introspective way - has made me understand why concerts are important; when I perform, I think about how I'm playing to connect with the audience in that way" (Simone Dinnerstein)

Known for her charisma, a unique, off the beaten path road to success, and her No. 1 ranked CD on the Billboard Classical Chart (for the debut of her recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations), American pianist Simone Dinnerstein approaches her PCMS debut as an artist "poised for a breakthrough" (The New York Times). Dinnerstein, having played sold-out concerts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among other venues, joins PCMS to play variations of Bach, Beethoven, Copland, Lasser, and Webern, approaching each work with what The New York Times has hailed an "utterly distinctive voice."

Listen & Connect: Listen to an interview on Morning Edition of NPR with Steve Inskeep. The interview highlights selections of Dinnerstein's take on Bach's Goldberg Variations, while providing insight into her childhood and musical influences. "The way I play it is close to my own personality," says Dinnerstein. "It's more inward-looking and meditative, and rhythmically free. I will even change the tempo slightly within the same variation. I think of these pieces as shapes of notes, and I don't feel that they all need to have the same rhythmic feeling."
