Simon Gray's
The Old Masters

A staged reading of Gray's compelling power play, featuring Rufus Collins, Shirley Knight, Brian Murray, Heidi Schreck, and Sam Waterston.

The Old Masters is set in I Tatti, the famous villa of art historian Bernard Berenson, just outside Florence. The year is 1937 and Italy is under the menacing shadow of Mussolini. The play explores the turbulent relationship between Berenson and famed art dealer Lord Joseph Duveen, as they edge toward an explosive final encounter over the attribution of a painting, friendship, ethics, and death.
