The annual Silk Road Gala 2011 is a fundraising benefit for ATASK, the only provider of culturally and linguistically appropriates shelter and support services for Asian survivors of domestic violence and their children in Massachusetts and New England, as well as nationally-recognized teen domestic violence prevention and youth empowerment programs. The 18th annual Silk Road Gala 2011 is featuring star chef Ming Tsai, host of “Simply Ming”, and chef/owner of Blue Ginger Restaurant, as this year’s Gala Chair. Other local celebrity chefs joining Tsai are David Wong of Shabu Zen, Jody Adams of Rialto, Joanne Chang of Myers + Chang and Flour Bakery + Café, Jason Santos of Blue Inc., Jammie Bissonnette of Toro, Patricia Yeo of Om Resturant, and Ting San of Oishii Boston. This year’s event is chaired by Laura Sen, President and CEO of BJ’s Wholesale Club, Patti Salem, Barret and Company, and Deeb Salem, M.D., Physician-in-Chief of Tufts Medical Center. Janet Wu from 7NEWS/CW56 will emcee the event. The past VIP guests include Daisuke Matsuzaka, Boston Red Sox Player, First Lady of Massachusetts Diane Patrick, Mayor of Boston Thomas Menino, and First Lady of Boston Angela Menino.
