Sila and the Afrofunk Experience live @ Mt. Shasta Music Festival Summer Concert Series August 9, 2009

High energy grooves characterize the musical stylization of Sila and The Afrofunk Experience. With lyrics in both English and Swahili, the band's sound is a funky fusion of African rhythm, funk, soukous, Afrobeat, and reggae, influenced by artists like James Brown, Prince, Otis Redding, and Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti. Sila and AfroFunk Experience's (AFE) debut CD "The Funkiest Man in Africa" was critically acclaimed, with Kenyan native Sila receiving Artist of the Year at the LA Music Awards. Like Afro-beat founder Fela Kuti, AFE is known for its extended rifts that drive audiences into ecstatic dancing. Hailed by many as "the James Brown of Africa," Sila sings of the African experience: the problems he and many others face every day, in a language understood throughout the world.
