Sila and the Afrofunk Experience: CD Release Concert & Carnival After-Party May 8, 2006

The San Francisco Chronicle proclaimed Sila as the "Kenyan Funk Master." Kenyan expatriate Sila is a man on a mission: to have a seriously funky good time. The founder of a style he calls Afro-funk, he has also named his band the Afro-Funk Experience, which is basically what will happen to you Satruday night at the Great AMerican Music Hall. The Experience's sets are invariably long, sweaty labors of love -- in addition to syncopated grooves, percussive breaks, and Sila's fervent multilingual vocals, there's another, more interactive element. Simply put, the more love you show Sila and company when they're onstage, the more they'll return to you. Now go tell your momma 'bout that.

Joining Sila and the Afrofunk Experience will be SambaDa. A SambaDa show is no ordinary concert. It is an immersion into Brazilian culture of the past and present. SambaDá is an explosive musical group that is rapidly inspiring audiences with its unique mixture of Brazilian samba and funky latin dance grooves. From the blissful rhythms of samba to hip-hop riffs, from bossa nova ballads to salsa, SambaDa?s tunes are playful, vital, and energetic: they make you dance and they make you sing, they are both intimate and exuberant
