Shakespeare in Action, Canada’s Leading Shakespeare Company for Young Audiences, opens its season with a fresh production of Shakespeare’s tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, set in Toronto. Starring a cast of veteran actors appearing alongside outstanding emerging talent including Bahareh Yaraghi (Juliet) and Kaleb Alexander (Romeo), the production promises to be a Romeo and Juliet for a new generation.

Shakespeare in Action re-imagines the treacherous streets of Verona as a modern city, not unlike our own. Tension is rife; culture and religion are fault-lines in a fragile peace. On one side are the proud, traditional Capulets, deeply committed to the customs of their Persian culture; on the other, the young, urban Montagues, fighting for recognition in a difficult world.
