Shockoe Chef Showdown August 1, 2009

"If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen..." and get down to the 17th Street Farmers' Market for the Second Annual Shockoe Chef Showdown!

Top chefs from Richmond and the surrounding area will be competing for top honors in a Signature Dish Competition where entries will be judged in three main categories: the best meat dish, best vegetarian cuisine, and of course, the most decadent dessert. Taste-test the best $2 samples of each Signature Dish from 11AM to 1PM, when afterwards, main courses will be sold in bulk to take home for dinner!

There will also be a special Market Basket Competition, where chefs will be presented with a basket containing a market fresh "secret ingredient" straight from our very own market vendors. The chefs will then have one hour to compete "Iron Chef" -style to create a dish based on the secret ingredient for judging.

The market will also be full of vendors with local produce and fine hand-made goods on offer. For fun and family entertainment, enjoy live music, face painting, balloon animals, juggling, and adult beverages for the "of-age" crowd.
