SHINE!, LA’s Youth Theatre, is set to begin general auditions for their 5th season on Saturday, October 16, 2010. The auditions, which are for Adult Company membership as well as Ensemble candidates, will take place at Plummer Park in West Hollywood. Auditions are open to students (ages 8 - senior year of high school) and adults 18+ from all over Los Angeles. The 5th season will enchant with an original musical adaptation of “Cinderella”, and cast members will be chosen from those who are accepted into the program.

All applicants should prepare a 2 minute piece (monologue, poem or short story) and arrive ready to begin. They may also sing if they'd like (no accompanist will be available, but CD/iPod player will be provided). Auditions will be done in groups and everyone should be prepared to stay for approx. 30 minutes. All interested should email headshot or picture and resume to [email protected] or call 323-951-9118.

All students accepted into the program receive a full scholarship, funded through private donations. Tony Sanders, founder and Artistic Director, started SHINE! to offer theatre to all students, regardless of their background and income level. Their mission is not to create the next child start but to produce a student who is a confident, self-motivated, literate creative thinker who welcomes challenge. Playwright Mark Sarto has written adaptation of “Cinderella”. Sarto’s “Rumpelstiltskin” and “Robin Hood” were produced in New York by the Manhattan Children’s Theater and received noted praise from the New York Times as ‘inspired musical theater’.

This year Shine! was honored with the Zeta Phi Eta-Winifred Ward Outstanding New Children's Theatre Company Award from the American Alliance of Theatres and Educators. This award honors a theatre company serving young audiences that has been in operation for at least two full years, but not more than five. The company must have attained a high level of artistic production and possess sound management practices while having stimulated community interest in its endeavors. Nominees must be organizational members of AATE.
