Illustrating the extraordinary, intricate and complex world that we live in, Sherway Gardens’ (Hwy 427 & the QEW) current Gallery in the Garden exhibit entitled Lifethreads II features paintings, drawings and sculptures by artists George Galletly, Donna Greenstein, Irene Hunchak, Anna Kutishcheva, Pamela Meacher, Gerry Jenkison, Esther Lovrics, Joan Ness, and Rita-Anne Piquet. On display until October 16, 2009, these pieces demonstrate a skillful combination of art and science in the examination of subjects as diverse as flowers, plants, insects, birds and their habitats. Call 416-621-1070 or visit www.sherwaygardens.ca for more information.

The artists featured in Lifethreads II met through their common interest in botanical art and their membership in the Botanical Artists of Canada. Working with diverse subject matter, they came together to show work that focuses on the fauna as well as flora in nature while creating pieces that go beyond the strict boundaries of botanical artwork where zoological elements are secondary to the plant material. These artists give us a close up view of intimate moments with birds, insects, reptiles, and some panoramic views of nature through a variety of media.

Mississauga’s George Galletly sculpted “Serpent” in Black Soapstone and “The Fallen Wing” and “Eskimo Heaven” in Green Soapstone.

Donna Greenstein of Schomberg used watercolour to present "Turkey Vulture" and "Blue Jays".

Oakville’s Irene Hunchak offers "Cyclamen" in Graphite and two watercolour paintings: "Old Friends (Tulips)" and "Romano Beans" to the exhibit. Anna Kutishcheva, also of Oakville, presents two works in acrylic that create a diptych: "Red Trillium Flower" and "Red Trillium Woods".

Pamela Meacher of Port Perry is the painter behind the two watercolours "Batty" and "At the Ballet".
The Toronto contingent in Lifethreads II features four artists. Gerry Jenkison shows her expertise in coloured pencil with "Brown Leaf Mantid" and "Cicada". Watercolour artist Esther Lovrics presents "Still Waters" and "Chrysanthemum". Joan Ness features watercolours "Gems of Georgian Bay" and "Blueberry Barrens". Rita-Anne Piquet’s three works are in oil on canvas: "Amaryllis in Bloom", "Rosetta’s Garden" and "Cancan".
