Sherway Gardens' Gallery in the Garden: L-attitudes January 11, 2012

Sherway Gardens’ current Gallery in the Garden exhibit entitled L-attitudes is an exhibition of works by artists Carole Braiden, Scott Cooper, Stan Zych and Louise Zych, who share a love of painting, a joy in colour and an enthusiasm for the landscape, both real and imaginary. Etobicoke artist Carole Braiden’s love for art was fueled at a young age by her parents’ enjoyment of art. Her sister is also a painter and pastel artist. Carole has a degree in Psychology, a Specialist Certificate in Art, Special Education and Guidance and Counseling and she has taught high school art. Carole is a member of The Etobicoke Art Group, the Etobicoke Quilters’ Guild and Neilson Park Creative Centre. Her paintings have been displayed at local restaurants and offices, the Etobicoke Civic Centre and Neilson Park Creative Centre. More of Carole’s work can be seen at http://web.mac.com/caroleabr.

Mississauga’s Scott Cooper graduated from the Ontario College of Art (now OCAD) in 1978. Although his primary area of interest was illustration, he spent a great deal of time in the Fine Arts department. Scott has over twenty years experience as a freelance and studio illustrator and designer, working in advertising and communications, animation and education. His drawings and paintings of the figure and urban landscapes have appeared in many group and juried shows. At the urging of several colleagues Scott began teaching early in the new millennium and has taught cartooning, drawing and life drawing at the Mississauga Valley School of Art, Barry Coombs’ Studio, the Art Gallery of Ontario School and Visual Arts Mississauga. He currently teaches adult's and children's courses in drawing and painting at Neilson Park Creative Centre in Etobicoke and at Visual Arts Mississauga. Etobicoke’s Stan Zych graduated from OCA in 1982 and has been a self-employed artist ever since. He has owned and operated a successful silk screening shop for thirty years, producing commercial and fine art prints. His work as an artist includes over seventy calendar illustrations and a wide variety of graphic designs. In recent years, Stan enjoys the challenges of water colour and produces meticulously detailed works, primarily landscapes. He has received recognition and an award upon his return to fine art. Stan is currently working on new water colours to be exhibited at Neilson Park Creative Centre in October, 2012, alongside works by his wife, Louise.

Louise Zych is an Etobicoke multi-media artist, working primarily in acrylic on canvas. Louise trained at OCA and has worked as a self-employed artist since that time. Originally producing etchings, serigraphs and illustrations, she moved into other media and teaching art classes while raising a family. Louise has taught private classes and has also taught children’s and adults classes at Neilson Park Creative Centre and at the Koffler Centre. She is an active member of and facilitator for the Milkweed Collective. Louise has participated in many juried, invitational, collective and solo exhibitions and has won several awards. Louise is currently preparing new works to be exhibited along with works by her husband Stan, in a two-person show at Neilson Park Creative Centre in October, 2012.
