Fiber Comes to Life at 11th Annual Shepherd’s Harvest Festival

Experience animal life combined with the untamed creativity of the fiber arts on May 10th and 11th at the 2008 Shepherd's Harvest Sheep and Wool Festival in beautiful Lake Elmo, MN. This is Minnesota's premier event for wool and sheep lovers and the largest fiber festival in the state.

Set in the beautiful countryside just minutes from downtown Minneapolis and St.Paul, this festival brings art and animal together the way no other event can. Within minutes you are transported from the din of city life to the pastoral countryside filled with artists and shepherds who transform animal fiber into magical works of art.

For the fiber lovers, there are a full range of classes from knitting, spinning, rug-hooking, and felting. You can view some of the finest fleeces in the Upper Midwest and learn from some of the area’s most highly regarded judges. You might buy an award winning fleece, participate in a felting competition, a knitting clinic or even the spin-in.

There are over three buildings full of dazzling festival activities with live musical entertainment for everyone. There are fashion shows, book readings, photo contests and even classes for kids.

You can watch sheep shearing, see a dog-herding demonstration, or just enjoy the many breeds of sheep, goat, rabbit, llama and alpaca. If you are considering your own enterprise, you can take a shepherding class or purchase whatever fiber animal suits your fancy.

Shop an outstanding array of over 90 vendors offering fiber art, fiber supplies and fiber demonstrations. There are wool mattress makers, yarn basket weavers, spinning wheel sellers, rug weavers, potters and sheep cheese vendors to name just a few. They come from all over the Midwestern countryside to bring you their talents and their wares.

Festival hours are Saturday 9:00 – 5:00 and Sunday 10:00 – 4:00. With free admission and free parking you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to experience. Mark your calendars now and enjoy a day of fun, fiber and cultural transformation.

More details about the festival will continue to unfold in the next few months.
