Portland vocalist Shelly Rudolph is a contemporary artist with a soulful sound and an eclectic style that is hers alone. Although Shelly’s roots are in jazz and she counts among her influences such greats as Billie Holiday and Nina Simone, her own style seems to extend beyond any one genre and embodies the elements of many. Whether interpreting a jazz standard or performing an original composition, Shelly exudes an energy that is honest, playful and seductive. Shelly has been surrounded with art and music her entire life. As a little girl growing up in Eugene, Oregon, Shelly spent her days in her mother’s art gallery, where she was able to experiment with painting, drawing, writing, dance and music. Shelly’s musical ambitions took her to New York City, Los Angeles and Portland, where she now makes her home. In addition to putting her own signature on classic jazz songs, Shelly is also a composer in her own right. Her CD Water in My Hand was released in 2006. Shelly is a regular fixture on the Northwest music scene and performs with some of Portland’s most esteemed musicians including Tom Grant, Ron Steen, Ramsey Embick, Scott Stead and Devin Phillips. She will be joined by her band featuring Ramsey Embick on piano, Dave Captein on bass and Chane Hayden on guitar. We are pleased to welcome Shelly to Bake’s and look forward to what will certainly be a lovely evening.
