Shaolinin the Wind is a grand dance dramer combined Kung Fu, folk dance andballet with amazing stage set and astonishing stunts performed by monksfrom the Shaolin Temple,home of Chinese martial arts, and the cream of the Zhengzhou Song andDance Troupe. Shaolin in the Wind integrating martial arts with thepoetry and lyricism of classical dance. The coexistence of dichotomieslike tenderness and strength, power and beauty, tension and relaxationreveals the breadth and depth of Chinese culture. Zhang Zongcan,executive editor-in-chief of Dance magazine, defines it as: “The firstdrama to fuse dance and martial arts.”

The production has toured Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Taipei and Hong Kong with 70 performances across China. Earlier this year, on invitation from the President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao, "Shaolin in the Wind" was staged at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Russian President Vladimir Putin has also invited the Zhengzhou Song and Dance Theatre to perform "Shaolin in the Wind" in Russia in the year 2008.

ZhengzhouSong and Dance Theatre will visit the national grand theatre with itscast of close to 110 performers. Of the 110 troupe members, 27 arekungfu practitioners and the others are professional dancers. Thedancers, however, have all been sent to martial arts schools topractice kungfu. They will showcase various forms of martial arts,exquisite classical dance, and breathtaking special stage effects. Itpromises to be an unforgettable and spectacular experience for theaudience.

Synopsis

Thisplay is about a legend of a young military monk. Tian Yuan, a scholar,and Su Shui encounter the bandit. Su Shui falls into the hand of thebandit, while Tian Yuan goes to Shaolin to pursue martial arts. Afterseveral years, the bandit again intrude the Central Plains. Knowing SuShui is cruelly killed by the bandit, Tian Yuan is so wrathful as tolead other military monks to fight agains the evil bandit. It's astruggle between justice and evil. The tragic love story makes the playreally touching.
