Since its founding at the Shanghai Conservatory in 1983, the Shanghai Quartet has earned their reputation as one of the world's outstanding string quartets. Formerly in-residence at the University of Richmond, this versatile ensemble is known for passionate musicality, astounding technique, and multi-cultural innovations. As a soloist and chamber musician, Michel Lethiec has earned a reputation as one of the finest clarinetists performing today. Born in France, Lethiec studied at the prestigious Paris Conservatory where he earned first prizes in clarinet and in chamber music. He has premiered numerous pieces and concertos by contemporary composers, including Penderecki and Corigliano, and he is also the artistic director of the prestigious Festival Pablo Casals in Prades. Lethiec's Richmond performance with the Shanghai Quartet will feature Brahms's Clarinet Quintet in B minor (Op. 115).
