Mozart: Quartet in B-flat Major, K. 458, “Hunt”
Sheng: Dance Capriccio [Philadelphia Premiere]
Dvorák: Piano Quintet in A Major, Op. 81

The Shanghai Quartet’s elegant style melds the delicacy of Eastern music with the emotional breadth of Western repertoire, allowing it to traverse musical genres from masterpieces of Western music to cutting-edge contemporary works. In this special opening night collaboration with pianist Peter Serkin, the Shanghai offers some of each, with a Philadelphia premiere by contemporary Chinese composer Bright Sheng juxtaposed with Mozart’s Haydn-inspired Hunt quartet and Dvorák’s second Piano Quintet, a work widely considered among the pinnacles of Romanticism.
