Shakespeare In Action presents
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM
A night of mischief, magic and mayhem for all ages
Shakespeare in Action, Canada’s leading Shakespeare company for young audiences, prepares to dazzle theatre-goers with a new production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare's tale of magic, mischief and mayhem, opening April 17 and running to May 1 in the century-old theatre at Central Commerce Collegiate Institute.
Four young lovers escape to the woods, only to be embroiled in the warring world of the fairies. Add a sidesplitting troupe of wanna-be actors and a donkey and you have a perfect recipe for one unforgettable midsummer night.
Using giant rod puppets, shadow play, masks, dance and acrobatics, this highly physical production will amaze audiences of all ages and break through the Elizabethan language barrier to help young people better understand and appreciate Shakespeare's work.
A special $12 matinee performance will be held on Saturday, April 24 at 2 p.m. to raise funds to refurbish the beautiful, late Edwardian theatre at Central Commerce Collegiate Institute for use in the community. Audiences can see an exciting piece of theatre at a discounted rate, with all proceeds going to help new generations engage in culture, literacy and the arts.
