SPIRITED AWAY (125 mins.) - Directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Produced by Studio Ghibli.

Chihiro, a young girl of 10, is moving to the suburbs with her family, but her father’s shortcut leads them into a world ruled by gods, witches, and monsters, a world where humans are changed into animals. Her parents fall under the spell, but a mysterious boy promises to help Chihiro get a job and save her parents. Working at the bathhouse for the thousands of Japan's gods and spirits proves hard, but her pluck and determination to save her parents means she must find a way to break the spell on them before they end up as the main course.

This classic anime film was nominated in 2003 for the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation/Long Form in 2001, nominated for the Nebula Award in 2004 for Best Script, and won the Saturn Award in 2003 for Best Animated Film (given by Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. And it won a little thing called Oscar, for Best Animated Film in 2003. Yep, it's that good.

THE CITY OF LOST CHILDREN (112 mins.) - Directed by Marc Caro & Jean-Pierre Jeunet Rated R (Disclaimer - this is not a movie for children)

In a surrealistic and bizarre society, the evil Krank and his henchmen have been made by a mad scientist, and thus, are unable to dream. Krank kidnaps young children to steal their dreams, but since they fear him, he only gets their nightmares. One(Ron Perlman, aka Hellboy!) sets forth to search for Denree, his little brother who was kidnapped by Krank's men. With the help of some other eccentric characters, One tries to put an end to the evil reign of Krank and his Cyclops army. This visionary film has become a cult classic, visually stunning beyong belief. Amazing sets, costumes, and a unique vision of design, combine with a plot like something out of the Brothers Grimm. It’s grim - it’s beautiful - it’s an impressive movie on all counts.
