Sex Worker Literati is a free monthly performance series that features sex workers, former sex workers, and people with stories about the sex industry who will read, monologue, perform, and shimmy their ways into your hearts, minds, and naughty bits. To get a taste of what the Sex Worker Literati is like, check out: videos of past performances (and subscribe to the video podcast on iTunes or Miro), pictures taken at the event, and be our fan on Facebook.
The December 3 : Boy’s Night performance stars Jeffrey Escoffier, Craig Seymour, Tré Xavier, Twisted Monk, Alex Kinney, and Matthew Lawrence.
Jeffrey Escoffier writes on glbtz history, politics, culture, sexuality, music, and dance. One of the founders of OUT/LOOK: National Lesbian and Gay Quarterly, he has published widely. Among his books are American Homo: Community and Perversity and a biography of John Maynard Keynes in the Chelsea House series on the Lives of Notable Gay Men and Lesbians. He co-edited (with Matthew Lore) Mark Morris’ L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato: A Celebration. His most recent book is Sexual Revolution, an anthology of writing on sex from the 1960s and 1970s. He is currently working on a book on sexual politics and writing about the production of pornography.
Writer and photographer Craig Seymour is the author of the memoir, “All I Could Bare : My Life in the Strip Clubs of Gay Washington, D.C.” and the photo book “American Boys : A Strip Club Diary“. He is a former stripper and has been chronicling gay strip clubs for more than a decade. He holds a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Maryland in College Park, and is Associate Professor of Journalism at Northern Illinois University.
Tré Xavier is an adult entertainment / blogger who in addition to writing about sex, life, and love for his own blog, Tré’s X-Ray Vision, has also written blog entries for Pitbull Production’s ThugPornBlog, and more recognizably, MOC Blog, which he still maintains being a contributing writer for. His writing skills at expressing vivid pictures and valid points has also gotten his opinions published in a book review for FlavaMen Magazine, and in the feedback section of The Advocate.
Twisted Monk is changing the world, one bedroom at a time, through his hemp bondage rope company. A former missionary and one time yuppie turned bondage rope maker and sex worker, he writes about his adventures in the world on his blog.
Alex Kinney is an old whore who has prostituted himself in the Ivy League, America’s regional theaters, in the Golden Hills of Hollywood, one cold Christmas in Dublin, and more lengthily, the South of the Slot in San Francisco. Yes, Virginia, there really was a Golden Age of sexuality in San Francisco, and some of us were even getting paid for it. Actually, a LOT of us were getting paid for it, right, David?? The stuff you get me into, jeez…. Alex’s most recent play, Holy Hell, was developed at The Actors Studio. Tonight he’s doing a story from a collection in Manhattan’s Midtown West, “Helmut the Maid”.
Matthew Lawrence is a blogger, curator, and pop music enthusiast who lives and works in Providence, Rhode Island, where indoor prostitution was totally legal until last month. He’s a news writer for Carnal Nation and blogs about sex and culture at his own site, Mixtapes for Hookers. Matthew also runs a literary events organization designed to remind people about the awesomeness of libraries, and every Sunday morning he hosts a Top 40 countdown on a community radio station. Most recently, he has curated an exhibit, “World of Queercraft”, and organized a read-a-thon to raise money for Books for Bars, a prison book program.
