SEVEN BEAUTIES, 115 minutes (1975)
by Lina Wertmuller

The film is about the misfortunes of a young, chauvinistic Neapolitan man in 1936 (played by Giancarlo Giannini in one of his finest performances), who kills the seducer of one of his seven sisters. His subsequent punishment leads him into the Italian army during WWII. Following a failed attempt at desertion, he lands in a Nazi labor camp, where he will be forced to kill his best friend in order to avoid his own execution. This Academy Award-nominated film is widely considered to be a masterpiece of international cinema and is presented as part of the Lina Wertmuller retrospective.

Admission is free for all screenings at the Los Angeles, Italia Festival.
