For this meeting we are going to focus on the Red 5 server (http://www.osflash.org/red5). The goal will be to experiment with the streaming audio/video capabilities of the server. For example building an application to broadcast a live stream from your webcam, then building a client application to consume the stream. The video does not have to be live, but it may be more fun to work with live video.

The rules are pretty simple. Just write code. There isn’t a right or wrong answer. Obviously we want to focus on the video side of Red5, however, it’s all about innovation.

Danny has set up an MN.swf Red5Server account that we will use during the meeting. All you need is a Flash development tool. If you need to upload an existing video or server-side ActionScript file, we’ll be able to do that at the meeting.

I’ll be putting together a simple test project this weekend and will send an email on Tuesday. This can be used as a starting point for your application or simply as an example to work from. Otherwise, take a look at Red5 from the link above and come ready to code!

Oh, and there is one rule….no pre-existing code! You should be starting from scratch (or from the example I provide).
