Seminar - Competing in Emerging Markets. Organised by Indo-American Society. Target Audience: CEOs and other top-level executives of India's current and future global companies. Core Faculty: Professor Vinod K. Jain, President & CEO, India-US World Affairs Institute, Inc. Professor, Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, College Park & Professor Subash K. Bijlani, Professor of Practice, University of Maryland University College. The rise of emerging economies, such as Brazil, Russia, India, and China (the BRIC countries) and many others, is having a profound impact on business. Although, they account for only 25 percent of the world's output (despite accounting for 85 percent of the world's population), they have grown at twice the rate of growth of industrialized economies in the last two decades. If this continues in the coming decade, as many expect, emerging markets will account for 60-70% of the increase in world GDP. This offers an unparalleled opportunity to companies from everywhere, especially from India. The seminar will offer a fairly comprehensive look at competing in and with emerging markets, especially (but not only) Brazil, China, Mexico, South Africa, and Taiwan, as they integrate into the global economy. Participants will have the opportunity to examine and learn from the strategies of world-leading companies from emerging markets.
