Living in the middle of a bustling city doesn't have to mean you can't create a gorgeous garden space, no matter how tiny your outdoor area is. As long as you have a spot with a little sunshine and a place for a container, you can grow the flowers, veggies, or greenery for your own private oasis.

On Saturday March 23 from 10am-2pm, Garden Designer Dean Ouelette will help you transform even the smallest patch of ground into a pocket wonderland.

Bring in photos and drawings of your space, inspirational materials, and a vision of tranquility. Dean will help you create your own unique Secret Garden.

You will learn the advantages of a small space, how to make the most of vertical space, and how to incorporate recycled materials into your garden. We'll take a tour of the Garden's Nursery, and become inspired by the lush abundance of plants with different textures, colors, and sizes and available for purchase.

We'll discuss what plants work best in specific environments, and how to maximize your own garden's potential. This four-hour workshop will provide you with all the tools to create a truly magical space.

About the instructor: Dean Ouelette is a garden designer and volunteer at the San Francisco Botanical Gardens who believes in working with nature to create spaces that are green, organic, and a little wild.

The workshop is in collaboration with the world premiere of San Francisco Opera's interpretation of Frances Hodgson Burnett's beloved classic children's book The Secret Garden. Performances are March 1-10, 2013 at Zellerbach Hall, UC Berkeley.
