Mission Statement

Redbird serves as a bridge across the cultural gap that exists between native and non-native people and communities. Our goals are to promote indigenous cultural awareness and celebration, to assist families in need when resources allow us to do so, and to actively promote sustainable environmental policies.

What We Do: The Children Of Many Colors Powwow is our signature event. It is a cultural gathering in which the public is welcomed to experience the traditional songs, dances, music, food, art and public ceremonies of indigenous peoples. For many urban native people, encountering a powwow is their first initiation to their own culture, and it can change their lives.

It is not unusual to meet people who have walked away from alcohol, drugs, gangs and violence to find a spiritual center as a direct result of being welcomed into the circle; hearing the sounds of ancient songs, experiencing the dances, and witnessing first-hand that an alternative way of living and a caring community exists.

Redbird hosts and participates in educational exhibits and cultural activities. "Spirits In The Material World - Native Americans Today" is an educational exhibit created by native people and shown at over 100 locations in southern California, such as libraries and museums.

Redbird also participates throughout the year in cultural events sponsored by other entities, and holds an annual toy, blanket and school supplies drive on the first Saturday in December.

Redbird does not charge membership dues. We rely on the support of the Native American and non-native community, as well as funding from grants and awards, to carry out our work.

Redbird is currently engaging in its largest undertaking to date, Redbird Ranch.

Redbird Ranch will be a four to six unit transitional and elder housing facility, in Ventura or Los Angeles County. Redbird Ranch will provide a supportive and sensitive atmosphere, offering peace and dignity to elders and their families, and hope for those facing times of personal crisis and change.

We are seeking partner organizations and potential funding sources at this time, but we are also in need of the support of individuals in order to do this much-needed work.
